Disparities in NatureScore® across U.S. public schools
Implications for environmental and socioeconomic equity

Triggered from the growing recognition of the impact of educational environments on student academic achievement, particularly through the lens of nature exposure, this national study analyzes NatureScore™ across over 65,000 U.S. schools, revealing significant disparities in access to surrounding natural environments. Schools with more economically disadvantaged students—especially in urban areas—tend to have lower NatureScores®. The findings advocate for integrating green infrastructure and nature-based learning into equity-focused educational and public health strategies.
